Who Is Crunchy Hot Mama?

Howdy!  My name is Jess.  I live in Dallas and am a gluten-free wife and stay at home mama to two beautiful girls, Emma (4) and Sophia (13 months).  I wanted to start this blog to chronicle my adventures of being a mom and to show the alternative (or ‘crunchy’ as my hubby calls them) methods I’ve used in rearing them.

It was never my intent to be crunchy, but once I started to do some research and realized there were alternative ways, it was all over!  I have tried various techniques with my daughters that I never thought existed in a million years but have actually enjoyed seeing what’s out there.  My goal is to be as clean/green as I can in our daily life with a strong focus on incorporating healthy foods into our ‘diet.’

I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease when I was 18 months old and have been on a strict gluten-free diet for over 12 years (thanks to meeting my future hubby, Josh).  My family started on a journey to go Paleo in 2011 and I have no intentions of ever turning back!  This is the best I have ever felt even while being gluten-free/paleo, so I know it’s the path for me and my family.

Come join me as I show you crunchy ways to rear your child or just make your life a lot cleaner.  Take a dive into the world of Paleo eating so you too can feel great and feed your body powerful fuel while taking care of your family in the process.

Thanks for stopping by…now let’s get crunchy!

  1. Great Blog Jes !!!!! I’m glad to see you’re doing well its been awhile. My buddy has been talking about this paleo stuff, I’m not to familiar with, but it all looks real good. I guess I’m gonna have to break down and try it. Tell your family Hi for me.

  2. Thanks Izzy-will do! Hope you are doing well, too! Paleo seems to be the latest lifestyle ‘trend’ but I have to admit I feel great on it. Definitely check into it and see what you think. I hope to have a post about it soon so others can see what it’s all about. Thanks for reading :) Take care!

  3. Hi! I found you through a mention on YHL when they mentioned you after your second signing. I was two people behind you in line in Austin. I kept looking at you wondering why you looked familiar to me. Then Sherry yelled out about it being your third signing and it registered! I have recently started eating healthier due to some health problems and am also a stay at home mom to a (almost) 3 year old girl. I’m looking forward to getting to know you more through your blog. It’s always nice to find someone out there who is going down a similar path as you are! :)

    • Hey Gen!
So glad you found me. That’s funny that you recognized me in Austin (I think that’s a good thing). It was fun to see J&S in different cities and get hugs from people you feel like you know from their blog.

Let me know if I can help you on your health journey in any way…I’ve been through a lot :) That’s crazy that our daughters are almost the same age, too!

      Take care!

  4. I never realized you had your own page! You go girl! I am proud of you! My husband and I have started to eat Paleo, very new to it. We will be trying some of your recipes.

  5. Hiya, just pinned your coconut flour waffle recipe and can’t wait to try it!
I just read your “about” page for the first time. Wow, you were diagnosed with celiac disease at 18 months? That’s pretty impressive that the docs picked it up that early… I feel like it usually takes longer.

    • Thanks!

I know, it’s crazy that they could diagnose it that early. My Pedi said it was either celiac disease or cycstic fibrosis, and turns out he was later diagnosed with CD. Small world. Thank goodness they could actually figure it out back then, I think it takes an average of 7 years now. Hopefully the medical world will catch it earlier so people won’t have other autoimmune issues.

  6. Great blog sis!! You’re a great inspiration and really do your homework/research!! You’ve defintely inspired me in so many ways!! I love u!! Blog on lady!! :)

  7. Ahhh, great blog, and glad you’re finding your way with good food and not letting Celiac’s bring you down!

I only recently learned the term “crunchy” after my wife started getting into essential oils and diy cleansers, and turns out….we pretty much live a crunchy life. Go figure!

While I’m not paleo, it is the closest to my diet of mainly whole, unprocessed foods. I look forward to reading more from your blog. It’s great to see another DFW blogger living a healthy lifestyle…….that’s a rarity!!

    • Thanks, R.C!

It’s amazing what those precious little ones will get us to do ;) I love being ‘crunchy’ and caring about what goes in our bodies and in my home. It seems like a lot of parents are becoming more health-conscious these days, which is awesome!

Thanks for stopping by and following me! I look forward to joining you on your journey of fatherhood to your sweet baby girl. Aren’t little girls the best ;)

Maybe we need a healthy DFW blogger meet-up!

  8. Yes, I can’t believe I was so pumped about a boy since that’s what we thought we were having first. Now I couldn’t imagine it any other way.

I think a healthy blogger meet-up would be awesome! Of course, I’d have to bring Kelley, my wife, along since meeting anyone who values real food and health is so scarce! It would be cool to just swap stories and whatnot over good beer and/or wine.
